Breaking Dead

Okay, so, everybody loves zombies, right? Yeah. So, not too long ago, as i was going to work, i saw some. Really. No, i mean REALLY really.
i work in downtown Atlanta. At the Internet factory. When you have to be to work before 8 AM on a Sunday, you expect the city to be dead quiet. You do NOT, however, expect the breakfasting pedestrians to be dead too. But there they were. Actually, it was the overturned, burned-out bus i saw first. For a second i wondered if I’d missed …

Just Bitching About Movies

I just wanted to take a couple of minutes to rant. It’s not about Schumacher or Bay or Seth Rogen’s overexposure or anything like that. It’s just generally griping about what’s happening these days in movies. It’s not plots. It’s just generic junk about movies…

A Brief History of Wrestling Toys

’ve been collecting toys pretty much since I was a kid. It all started with Star Wars, then a bit of He-Man. GI Joe will always be the big toy love of my life. When Joe waned in the 90’s, I got into Ninja Turtles and then the Batman: The Animated Series stuff. Things have just sort of snowballed since then, what with the collector boom in the mid-90s

Everything I Need to Know in Life I Learned from Professional Wrestling

In order to prepare for WrestleMania 26, We’ll be doing some stuff this week that relates to that guiltiest of pleasures: the “sport” of professional wrestling. And while I’ve made some vague attempts to justify my being a fan of this art form for a quarter century now, I thought that it might help my cause if I demonstrated some of the actual bits of knowledge I managed to obtain as a wrestling fan…

The Top Ten Best TIE Fighter Variants

There are few vehicles from the Star Wars universe that are more iconic than the TIE Fighter. Sure, the Millennium Falcon may get the most love, and Rebel ships like the X-Wing are up there in popularity too, but nothing else really is really more identifiable more than those sleek, compact little bastards that swarmed our heroes in countless space battles from the original Star Wars Trilogy…

Watchmen 2 [?] [!]

Keep in mind that I don’t know nothin’ about nothin’, but the rumor mill has it that these pursuits would include new Watchmen media up to and including prequel comics, sequel comics, new animation (likely under DC’s excellent straight-to-DVD production banner), novels, toys, stuffed animals, video games and a line of Underoos. I might have made some of those up…

Phantom Troublemaker Goes to the Royal Rumble!

I fucking hate downtown Atlanta. It’s dirty and gross and you run into all sorts of mean, rude fucking assholes down there. The traffic is terrible and the roads don’t make any fucking sense. Plus, you’re about fifty times more likely to get mugged and raped by a transvestite crack whore than you are anywhere outside of the perimeter…

The 82nd Academy Awards: Predictions and Pontifications

It’s been several years since I’ve done one of these things. In this site’s former life as Movie Criticism for the Retarded, this was an annual event for a while, but this is the first time in three years that I’ve churned out my (usually wildly incorrect) predictions of how the Oscars will pan out this year…

An Open Letter to Horror Movie Directors

Feigning credibility by pretending your film and idea is real does not work. People such as Whitley Strieber and Richard Hoagland may echo my sentiment when I beg you to stop pretending your great spooky idea may be based on real events. There is a genre called science fiction and horror for a reason. The operative word there is fiction. Just because you shoot something in first person doc style with a handheld and infrared does not warrant true story…

Phantom Troublemaker Goes to Hollywood (sort of): The Director’s Cut

I originally posted this earlier last year, right around the time it happened. We were specifically told not to post anything online about the experience. I kept everything nice and vague and posted it here. Now, at last, the truth can be told in its entirety. I was an extra in Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2. I don’t even know if I’ll be in the final cut or not, but here’s what went down…

Pac-Man Merchandising Mania!

Since the relaunch of this site involves somewhat of a Pac-Man motif, I thought it only fitting that the first new article since the relaunch involve everyone’s favorite pixellated dot-muncher himself. Now, just about everyone in the world is familiar enough with Pac-Man, but those who weren’t around between 1980 and 1984 don’t understand just exactly how ubiquitous this cheese-wedge-looking motherchomper was during his formative years…

OskarI had meant to do this by Halloween, but it just didn’t happen. I was very fortunate to view two very memorable and distinctive movies during the month of October. Both made enough of an impression that I wanted to pass them along…

For day two of San Diego Comic Con, I had an itchy shutter finger, so today you’ll get lots of pictures. And yeah, a little text, but you’re just here to see the cool costumes anyway, right?

Tomorrow, MCFTR cofounders Bobby, Terry, and I will hop on a plane and head to Los Angeles to meet up with fellow MCFTR cofounder Chad. A couple of days and a short drive later, and we’ll be at Comic Con International in San Diego, the biggest celebration of all things geek in the known universe. As the weekend goes by, we hope to be able to bring you reports, but at worst case scenario, we’ll have an overall report when we arrive back in town next week. Be sure to keep checking this space for more details, or simply subscribe to our RSS feed to get updates as they happen…

A Closer Look at Transformers

So…here’s a look at the origins of the movie Transformers and some of my thoughts on them.

Optimus Prime – In my opinion the best adaptation from toy/comic/cartoon to movie out of all of the Transformers represented. Optimus has all of the classic elements while still being modern. Getting Peter Cullen to do the voice was a great plus.
Bumblebee – A lot of fans have issues with Bumblebee being a Camaro instead of a VW Bug, which I can understand…if you are gay.
Jazz – Only issue here is …
